Memorial

Patsy “Pat” Ann (O’Rourke) Peiffer, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at Cottage Grove. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. A Vigil Service will take place one hour prior to the visitation and begin at 4:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery following the mass. 

Patsy was born January 16, 1935, to Joe and Marie (Giblin) O’Rourke in Keokuk County. When Patsy was five years old, they moved to Parnell. She graduated from Parnell High School in 1953. She attended Ottumwa Heights College and later worked at Amana Refrigeration until 1958. She married Don “Pep” Peiffer on May 3, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Parnell. They lived in Keota for two years before moving to Cedar Rapids. She worked at Allen Motor Company for 24 years and retired in 1994.

She was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, St. Bernadett’s Circle, and volunteered at Mercy Hospital for years. 

Pat is survived by Mike (Diana) Peiffer, Mark (Elaine) Peiffer, and Peggy Peiffer; grandchildren, Bart (Brittani) Huron, Nick (Sam), Ben (Monica), and Michael (Taylar) Peiffer, and Peggy Layton; twelve great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Genevieve Jaeger; and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Pep, her parents, her three sisters, and grandson Josh Peiffer. 

The family would like to thank Mercy Medical Center, Cottage Grove Place, and Mercy Hospice for their kind and loving care.

Memorial

Judy Carol Bertling, 79, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully at home surrounded by a lifetime of memories and unwavering love on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with a visitation taking place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service and take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Judy was born June 6, 1945, in Cedar Rapids to Lester and Viola (Seiler) Heck. She married her soulmate, Robert “Bob” Bertling September 16, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, and together they had two children. She ran an in-home daycare service for many years caring for many children and educating many parents. She loved writing, playing cards, and spending time with her husband. Judy also loved going to the casino and going on drives with her sister, Barb. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandson. Judy was quick witted and had a great sense of humor. She always had an open ear to anyone who asked. 

She is survived by her children, Rob Bertling and Diana Ferguson (Roger Main); grandson, Cael Ferguson; sisters, Barb Bartosh and Bonnie Heitzman; sister-in-law, Reana Heck; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Judy is preceded in death by her soulmate, Bob, her parents, her brothers Ted Heck and Larry (Darlene) Heck, and her brother-in-law Jim Heitzman.
